Through a complete remodeling
and extension of a private house in County Dublin
a typical inward looking dated suburban house was transformed into a contemporary, light and spacious bespoke home.
All
that remained of the original 1960's detached house were two
ground floor and two first floor rooms. The remaineder was demolished
to make way for the new extension at the rear which doubles the volume of the building.
The
5 bedroom house now has a three storey high open living space toplit with matural light. At the first floor a cubic form clad in American white oak containing the master bedroom protrudes into this space. Below, on the ground
floor, there is a raised dining platform overlooking the main
living space and adjacent kitchen. Built in seats created from American white oak punctuate the ground floor wall and offer views out to the garden beyond.
