This
new build contemporary house is the centre piece and prize in the ITV television
series “Building The Dream” broadcast daily during
April to July 2004. The construction of the house was followed
every day with 12 couples working on the construction while
competing to win the house on completion. Partner Angela Brady
was designer and a co-presenter of the programme.
The
house is designed to respond to the historic grain and development
pattern of the small Somerset village of Witham Friary. It
is a critique of current suburbanising trends in rural architecture
and seeks to extend the historic pattern of the village and
interpret traditional architecture in a contemporary way.
ITV 1
64 x 30 minutes plus 1 x 60 minutes - aired summer 2004
Zeal TV quote
"Twelve couples compete to win a dream house; the only catch
is they have to build it first! As the house goes up, the
workforce goes down, as couples vote each other off the programme.
