Highbury Crescent

London, N1

Situated within the Highbury Fields Conservation Area this contemporary new build project created 24 flats and 10 houses. A new block overlooking Highbury Fields is of the scale and massing to reflect the rhythm of it’s neighbouring Victorian Villas. Behind this block is a pair of smaller blocks and in the depth of the site a mews of ten detached houses. All of the buildings are articulated in a language of stock brickwork, Iroko timber and cast stone elements. The site layout is governed by railway tunnels which run below the site which presented technical challenges overcome through the use of a complex basement construction, spring supported superstructure and carefully detailed acoustic isolation to create peaceful interior spaces.
